Ummi Kholifah, S.Psi - Guidance Counsellor

Hi, everyone! I am Ummi Kholifah, the school counselor of SMAN Sumsel. I choose to work as a school counselor for two reasons. First, I like to talk with people with all characters.  Second, my education background which focusing on human behavior, personal and interpersonal sides along ones’ life with emotional, social, vocational, educational, developmental, and organizational concerns has led me to do my best efforts to help people improving their lives by taking the right decisions according to those concerns.  

School counselor is an occupation with complex duties. She must respond to the most crucial problems of a student to crisis situations.  A solid understanding and relevant education along experience are the required.  The counselor is expected to help students to understand and learn to deal with the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical changes occurring in the student’s transition from childhood to adolescence, and finally to a young adult.

Personally, I am determined to be an excellent guidance counselor.  I am positive that my strengths will definitely help me in performing my duties. Firstly, I am a good listener, which is a necessary quality.  Moreover, I can empathize the problems of others, and strongly care for their feelings.  Very often, students need to understand why things happen the way that they do.  I would explain clearly based on their backgrounds and experiences.  Finally, the field of education has been part of my entire life.

Counselors also assist students with personal, family, educational, mental health, and career decisions and problems. While helping students plan for college and careers is part of their job, a school counselor’s overall duties is to talk to students, give advice, listen to problems, help students develop coping skills and learn to become good problem-solvers and decision-makers on their own (Guidance Counseling).  Particularly, school counselors play a major role in the social, emotional, and academic development of the students.

4.  Assesment Officer at PT. Bintang Muda Sriwijaya Magna Penta Palembang (Biro Psikologi) (since August 2011-now)

5.  Consultant Fingerprint Test Analysis (JAPO Palembang) and Hand Writing Analyst (2011-now)

6.  School Counselor at SMAN Sumsel Sampoerna Academy (July 2012-now)
