Eti Yunita, S.T - General Affairs ( Purchasing )

On June 16th, 2011 was the beginning I joined at SMAN Sumatera Selatan (Sampoerna Academy) to occupy the position of GA. GA is my first experience stands in stark contrast with the educational background that I had is chemical engineering but GA does not have a job as a significant constraint because of the early work I've got a job outside the path of chemical engineering. GA’s jobs are similar with housewives work. At first glance like a very trivial one, but the job is done repeatedly many so often overload and work hard on the schedule. Alhamdulillah. Thank God for blessing me and many lessons has given by working as GA, including my relationship was growing, knowledge ... Tired...of course but it’s fun .... Cool :D. Thank God you have given me the spirit, health and ability to work up and bring me with extraordinary partner "Little Bee Fatimah" as the General Administration so we can complement each other and join hands to provide the best, especially for children & people of SMAN Sumatera Selatan (Sampoerna Academy) in general.

"Enjoy what you do, don’t do what you enjoy"

Mahkamah, S.Pd - Academic Administration

Hi, I am Amy, an academic administrator. This year is my first year working in this school. It is a challenging job for me since there is no such position in this school before, so that I have to make almost all the procedures and documentation by myself.

At that whole year I experienced up and down feelings. I think it is common for an employee, but we have to be always positive to build a good work situation and integrity.

I am happy for knowing great colleagues and students here with different characteristics and culture. As I am from Banten, I have to adapt with different culture.  I learn a lot here. I do hope I can give a good contribution for our school.

Good Luck for us ^^.

Rischa Amelia Sari, A.Md - Library Administration

Hi..! I’m Rischa. I’m a Librarian in SMAN Sumsel.Well, I actually I didn’t have any skillsto work as librarian before, because I was graduated from Computer Faculty in Sriwijaya University. One day, I got an offer by SMAN Sumatera Selatan to work as librarian. Since I love to read (well,I started readingwhen I was 4 J), I accepted it. Becoming a librarian is really interesting because I can read many different books  for free. I love to read Romantic Novel, Religion and Inspirational books. Here, I do not work alone, I have lovely assistants: Delva,Mega,Nita, Rizka,Sella,Triana, Area, Arik, Bagus, Midi, Ocky & Zainul, that always help me to do this AMAZING job (thank you, kiddosJ). One thing I really love to do in the library is labelingbookwith my lovely assistants... because it’s really FUN...

All that we can see areBOOKS, BOOKS and BOOKS! Yap, it is our beloved Mini Library! Who doesn’t know what a library is? As the biggest and the most luxurious place among school’s rooms, thelibrary is very popular and familiar among students.

This library is supported fully by a big Oil and Gas Company, named CONOCO PHILLIPS Indonesia. Nowadays, for about 4195 title of books have been labelled by librarian of SMAN Sumsel. We wish our library will have LIBRARY DIGITAL SYSTEM just like other international libraries, so our library can be the best in South Sumatra. Amien!

Head Of Student Services

Hi.. My name is Kasim Bahri Batubara. This is my fourth year to be a member of this outstanding institution, SMAN Sumatera Selatan (Sampoerna Academy). It is always resplendent to witness tens of students coming to school with their uniquely varied characters every year. I’m now responsible in Students Services area where the focus is to build up students’ leadership skill and discipline. Working at this field gives me more insight about students’ perspectives and needs so better approach can be devoted for their success as teenagers.

As an English teacher, I am given a challenge to handle the earlier year-students; where the emergence of any new confronted language (eg. English) is always seen confrontative in such a rooted-cultured ethnic community. But a wonderful and fabulous effort has been shown by my students. They have continuously improved their understanding in English. They now, step by step, see English not as a big “threat”, but more like a friend to have fun. We try our best to give an interactive and fun way of teaching-learning process in every of our lesson and discussion time. You know what I’m saying: “When your students forget that they’re learning language, you are on a right path!”.

Moving to our own building in Academic Year 2011-2012, after staying in BLPT area for two years, has brought us to another fruitful year. Students have marked the year with various achievements in different fields. Our new site, which has bigger dormitories equipped with canteen and multi-function hall and other facilities, has given the students more rooms to conduct the activities of their interest and helped them to contribute more trophies to school. School Production, Entrepreneursip and Leadership programs have been successfully executed. Not only that, as the CIE Center, we have fasilitated other students from other schools in South Sumatera to sit IGCSE and A Level examinations.

This year is another rewarding year as we  have our first graduate ready to pursue their tertiery education in different universities. Three students will continue their studies in the United States and four students have accepted another scholarship. Some others have been offered for scholarships in reputable universities in Palembang and Jakarta. Not to forget, all students passed the National Examination with no exception. I am truly proud of them as they valued the integrity and honesty when sitting the examination. I believe these values will bring them to be great future leaders who will keep themselves down to earth.

Our partnerships with Haleybury School and Iowa State University have been continued. In November 2011 six Haileybury School students, two teachers and the Vice Principal visited our school and conduct collaborative work with our students and teachers. We also sent two grade 11 students, Chaidir and Esty Rista, and one teacher Ibu Hesti to learn different learning  strategies and teaching approaches as well as experiencing cultural differences in February 2012.  ISU student teachers, Heather Fremont and Sasha Francic stayed at our school conducting their international teaching practices in March-April 2012. We also have built partnerships with various schools in Indonesia and overseas.

Opportunities to visit and explore different countries to learn and bring home new things and skills came to some of our school members, grade 12 student Raven Dwipa Wangsa and Pak Kasim joined an exchange program to Japan through AFS. Two students, Adila Nawan and Reyhan Danu stayed for a year in the United States to study in the high schools. I went to the U.S.A, China and Australia to visit our school partners and built further partnerships with other parties.

It will be too many to mention what students, teachers and staff have achieved in year 2011-2012. All of these would never happen without the commitment of the stake holders, to bring the best in them for the school. I, therefore, would like to express my gratitute to all donors, the Government of South Sumatera, Putera Sampoerna Foundation, School Board, teachers, staff, my beloved students, the community and other parties for making the school a center of excellence. You are amazing!
